“Ew! Oysters look and taste like boogers! You’re nasty!”

The laughter coming from Amelia into her phone is no doubt intended to sound alluring and cute. Personally, Emily never could figure out how her friend can put the word “booger” into a sentence that she thinks is something flirty, but here they are. Amelia has been on the phone for the better part of the last half hour just spouting off nonsense like, “No, you’re bad,” and “Oh, whatever will I wear tonight? I just don’t think I can wear a bra in this dress,” paired with other equally stupid comments that Emily would have cringed at. However, Amelia is abundant proof that one doesn’t need to possess a brain in order for men to desire you. In Emily’s personal opinion, Amelia has managed to base all of her life’s success on the fact that she is pretty. Amelia is a former child star, the sort that has had all of the normal bumps and issues that any child star has had but she is blessed with an uncanny gift of being able to make people pity her. She is the type of woman who has people fawning over her all of the time in the name of ‘protecting’ her. Emily must admit that she is no exception to that rule; at least she wasn’t at first. Emily has been working for Amelia for the last five years as her personal assistant. Amelia’s office pays very well. Emily has been afforded the opportunity over the years to travel to many places that she never would have been able to go. She has been given many open doors and she knows very well that she owes a lot to Amelia.

For the most part, at least until very recently, Emily and Amelia have had a very good working relationship with one another as well as a personal one. For many years it has hardly felt like work for the pair of them and more of a journey that they have been going on together. The party that they are attending tonight is just another of the perks that Emily is tagging along for because of the notoriety that she has because of Amelia’s fame. Presently, Amelia is a regular on a very popular television show. It isn’t what she really wants to be doing, but it has been keeping the pair of them living a very successful and comfortable life. Emily moved into Amelia’s large Los Angeles home about a year ago. It is the worst choice she has ever made. She always feels as if the reason that Amelia is aloof about their personal friendship is just because she doesn’t have the brain capacity to be anything deeper than that; though, from living together, she knows now that isn’t the truth. While limited, Amelia has the capacity for keeping secrets.
